Join Castle Rock Writers for a very special speaker workshop on Monday, August 28, 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Zoom, as artist, writer, and poet Sara Frances leads us through how to prepare for competitions. Register at www.castlerockwriters.com and sign up on “Shop and Registration” page. Then click on Summer Workshop.

Topic:Judges’ Criteria: Avoid Mistakes and Emphasize Strengths to Score Big in Book Award Competitions” Get a running start to be able to enter your new book. Then explore competitions and typical judging methods and awards. Next work with content and design, answering the question: what matters most? Frances will go over scoring details that knock out many entries, bring detailed, insider list and explanation of scoring points, with each section illuminated with actual examples.

Bio: After flirting with careers as archaeologist, pilot, concert pianist, or diplomat, Sara Frances settled on “photographer.” This was after a residence in Heidelberg, Germany, where she studied for a masters in comparative literature. “I was inspired by the potential for personal interaction within a wide variety of cultural and social environments.” Retired from commercial photography, Frances has spent the last eight years learning the details of publishing, founding her own house specifically for complex image and text art/poetry books, and becoming a design and content book judge—and always as a storyteller.
