One Awesome Conference

Castle Rock Writers (CRW) was established in Castle Rock in the late 1990s, but today, it serves writers from all over the state of Colorado and beyond. If you attend even one event, feel free to call yourself a “Castle Rock Writer.” Many of our events are free, and our yearly conference is affordable. If you have a publishing credit or announcement to share, contact us at  Castle Rock Writers.

CRW is Seeking Sponsors for the 2025 Conference

Consider Conference Sponsorship for $100 per year, making a difference in the lives of writers by enabling CRW to hire the best talent and cover our expenses. Sponsors are recognized on our website, conference materials, and monthly email newsletter. Donations are tax-deductible. For questions or more information, please email us at castlerockwriters@gmail.com.

Monday, May 12, Manuscript Workshop via Zoom – 6:30 to 8:30 pm
Open to Writers

Manuscript Workshops will start on Monday, May 12, at 6:30 pm via Zoom.
If you want to send five poems or up to ten pages of prose, send them to castlerockwriters@gmail.com by Saturday, May 10. Although not required of all participants, manuscripts will be forwarded to those participating by Sunday afternoon. After the discussion on Monday evening, we will ask participants to shred the manuscripts they received
 .
Please provide us with your first and last name and email address. We’ll send you the Zoom invite again on Sunday. We hope you can join us Monday evening. Don’t wait until your manuscript is perfect, they never are! Join in the fun and inspiration. Writing friends are the best kind of friends who celebrate excellence when they see it and support their fellow writers!
The CRW philosophy of feedback to writers is to catch writers doing something right…or even marvelous! Celebrating what works will inspire the writer to write more and aim for even more small successes. The group avoids general statements about the writer’s skills but applauds what is fresh and original in the manuscript. Suggestions can be made if a writer requests them at the beginning or the end of each discussion. The writer can also ask the readers questions.

Sad Announcement:
William (Bill) John Goldy
June 5, 1940 – April 19, 2025
William (Bill) John Goldy, a past volunteer with Castle Rock Writers, died in April. His wife, Barbara, also volunteered with the group for several years. Condolences to the large and loving family Barbara described in her memoir. Our caring thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

A Very Easy Way to
Support Castle Rock Writers

Castle Rock Writers is now registered with King Soopers in the King Soopers Community Rewards Program. Each quarter, Kings writes a check to community organizations that are signed up, as a way to give back to the community. There is no cost to you as a shopper. The Non-Profit number for CRW is TN998, or CRW can be looked up by our name when you sign up.

How to link your King Soopers card with our organization:
Selecting the organization you wish to support is as simple as updating the King Soopers Community Rewards selection on your digital account.
1. Sign in to your digital account.
2. Search for your organization here.
3. Enter the name or NPO (non-profit) number (ours is shown above).
4. Select the appropriate organization from the list and click “Save.”
Your selected organization will also display in the King Soopers Community Rewards section of your receipts. If you need to review or revisit your organization, you can always do so under your account details.

Thank you to our treasurer, Tania Urenda, now zooming in from Florida, for setting us up with this program. If you already support a child’s or grandchild’s non-profit, we understand. If you are not, please support us! We are an all-volunteer program, and it would help us continue our support of writers.

NaNoWriMo No More

In April, the organizers of NaNoWriMo announced that the group is closing due to financial issues and community complaints about mishandled events. Due to this, Jean Jacobsen’s Fall Workshop on Monday, October 6, has been canceled. Also canceled is the NaNoWriMo kick-off on Monday, November 3. Activities for October and November will be rescheduled. (For more on NaNoWriMo’s closure, check out this piece by Nicholas C. Rossis at storyempire.com.)
